The ostensibly abstract design atop this eye-catching necklace is known as a tughra, a calligraphic signature used by sultans of the Ottoman Era. The tughra was commonly stamped on currency during the sultan's reign, similar to the gold-plated coin that dangles prominently from the handmade chain.
