seeing stella

One of my favorite moments during a fashion show is when the designer steps out at the end and takes a bow. It seems pretty ironic that many designers are actually pretty plain when it comes to their own style. Most adopt somewhat of a “uniform”- simple clothes that they wear for work. Even though they’re creating ornate and trendsetting clothing, they prefer to wear same pieces everyday. I think some people could perceive this as incredibly boring and confusing. Why are the people who are setting the stage for fashion so simple when it comes to their own? Now, obviously I cannot speak for these individuals themselves, but I think I understand where they’re coming from due to my own experiences. When your life revolves around fashion, the options are endless and there is always something new and exciting to try. Sometimes this can be a bit overwhelming and you start to loose sense of your own style. I think it’s amazing once you’ve truly found the pieces that make you comfortable in your own skin because they reflect who you are. One designer whose work and personal style always inspires me is Stella McCartney. Stella truly designs for every woman and never strays from her core beliefs; her style is simple, classic, and heavily influenced by the balance between masculine and feminine. So, this outfit was inspired by her. One day I will own one of Stella’s infamous blazers, but until then, I’ll work with what I have. “It is the understanding of the emotion of clothes- of what lies beneath the surface- that propels her success. ‘The emotional side is absolutely key to the design,’ she says. ‘Clothes are a big way for us to express ourselves; they’re a language and part of a conversation we have with other people.’ The conversation shows no signs of slowing. Her clothes are there when you need them, like the most consistent of friends.” - “Stella’s Star Power” Justine Picardie (Bazaar US September 2012) -BL
